What can I say, they had me at “Shenandoah”.

When I first met with Joanna and Dennis, it was like love at first client meeting. Let me explain. 🙂
Their love was one that was evident just from being with them, and even more so in the way they looked at each other, the way that they retold their story (cue the heartmelt). I was impressed with the vision they had for their wedding day, not just stylistically but also the consideration they had for their guests, and the intricate wedding details they had planned around their gorgeous venue, a vineyard in Virginia. Joanna, a very talented artist, is creating all the stationary and signage for her wedding day, including water color drawings of the venue. Amazing! So of course, it was only natural for her to bring her beautiful stationery work to be photographed and what an honor it was to document some her lovely pieces!

Their requested engagement session location was Skyline Drive, a place where they frequent to hike, get creative inspiration, or just get away for a short while. It is located in Shenandoah National Park with a breathtaking view of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Any mountain or beautiful landscape quickly becomes my favorite! A couple so in love, requesting a mountain top engagement, who emphasize the importance of wedding details? Sigh.. case in point! I’m still on cloud nine. 😉

Joanna and Dennis, what a blessing it is to be a small part of your journey to marriage. Your engagement session was such a dream and you two are a dream to work with! Cannot wait to capture the beautiful moments of your wedding in a few months!

I have known Byung since I was 16 years old and he has remained a good friend, tried and true. Our mutual friends would always ponder about the type of woman he would one day marry and wow, did Nikki far surpass all of our expectations! The Lord surely knows what He is doing! 😉 Nikki and B together are perfect complements to one another and it has been such a joy to see my old friend with this twinkle in his eye and a hop in his step due to his new bride. They shared a few moments with me at Brookside Gardens before their big day and it was such a blessing to be a part of their wedding day journey. Stay tuned for highlights from their intimate wedding at Holly Knolls in a post coming soon!

Kim and Josh met in 2013 when he was working at the bank and she came in one day for help. Unexpectedly, he became her business banker and at first, it was strictly a professional relationship but after a few months of the usual business transactions and occasional but growing flirting, Kim found herself making excuses to go to the bank more. Her bank visits grew longer and more often, and their conversations became less about her banking needs.

One bright afternoon, Kim mustered up the courage to ask Josh out to lunch, only to be disappointed and turned down. Little did she know at the time, it was because of company policy that Josh could not accept an offer like that. All Josh knew is how much he wanted to say “yes” but couldn’t. Luckily, the next time Kim went back a couple weeks later, Josh changed his mind and risked it all by asking her if the offer still stood.

After she said it did, the rest is history.

Two years ago, Kim brought Josh to her favorite place in the world–the park right behind National Airport where people can watch the planes take off/land and they said “I love you” for the first time. Now after three years of dating, Josh took Kim to that very same park and as a plane was landing, went down on one knee and proposed to Kim under a tree where he carved out their initials.

Their love story seems straight out of a movie, doesn’t it? Kim and Josh, it’s our honor to be your wedding photographers and we are gushing over how naturally sweet you two are as individuals and together. Cannot wait for your big day coming up!

When I first spoke with Kristen on the phone about how her and Abner met, I knew right away that their love story was one that I would be thrilled to share and I felt even more so after meeting the two in person! This newly engaged couple met at a restaurant where Kristen was trying to get the waitress’s attention with no success. She and her friends noticed a young man who was communicating with their waitress frequently. So Kristen decided to approach this young man and ask for his help in getting service from their waitress. Unexpectedly (yet playfully) he looked at Kristen and asked, “Are you using me?”! Little did they know that this first interaction would be the catalyst to the beginning of their sweet love story!

Kristen and Abner drove to Virginia to spend the holidays with family and we met at the exquisite Maymont for their engagement session. Though it was December, we were blessed with mild weather and just slightly overcast skies, which was absolutely perfect for our day together! When we first saw them, they looked like they had literally walked out of a magazine – Kristen, the stunning bride-to-be was flawless in her violet colored, flowing dress and Abner, a fashion forward groom-to-be in his own dapper outfit. Their love for each other shined in their interactions and had us smiling the entire time! The way they looked at each other, the way they held each other, their relationship was so authentically sweet and romance filled the air. Kristen and Abner, we are so blessed to have the honor of retelling your love story. You two are an amazing couple and we can’t wait to celebrate your big day with you!

When speaking to Claire and Paul for the first time, their love for each other shined through our conversation and as they spoke about the way they first met, we knew we just had to revisit this place for their engagement session. The two met in undergrad at Georgetown University and shared so many special memories there. Just before the holidays, on a chilly winter day, we walked around the campus for their engagement photos. Claire and Paul recounted the place where they first saw each other, places they would go together, and some romantic spots where they could see the DC skyline and the beautiful campus. What a true blessing it is to be able to retell their love story through these images.
