Shannon and Joe’s Chesapeake Beach engagement session was not only an opportunity to capture new love, but a testimony to a couple who has grown so strongly through the different seasons of their lives.
“This journey has transformed us as individuals, as friends to others, as a son and a daughter, as sibling, and as a couple.”
The couple met at their home church in Rockville, Maryland, and always had the same group of mutual friends. Although the two interacted often, they never pictured themselves in a relationship. Joe was your classic “too cool for school” college man, while Shannon embraced her “Goody Two-Shoes” lifestyle. Even with opposing personalities, they began to learn more about each other during their college years at University of Maryland, College Park and their church’s Vacation Bible School program. It was during this time that Shannon and Joe quickly bonded and began dating in 2011. The couple discovered that they were able to overcome their personal weaknesses using the other’s strengths. The two were able to pull through tough times together and realized it allowed them to grow more than they could have ever imagined. It was at this point that they knew they wanted to spend forever together.
The proposal was planned around the couple’s first trip to Europe, particularly in Paris. On the most beautiful day of the trip, Joe set up a surprise picnic on the lawn of the Eiffel Tower, the one place Shannon was dying to see. She expected the proposal to happen there, but the surprises continued. Joe told Shannon he had arranged for them to go on a public boat tour on the River Seine after their picnic. When they arrived to the dock, Shannon was shocked to see a private boat with champagne and roses waiting for her! The two sailed down the river and stopped in front of famous Paris landmarks along the way. Once back at the Eiffel Tower, Joe got down on his knee and proposed while the boat captain recorded the moment.
This Chesapeake Beach engagement session was filled with natural greenery, soft waves, and a cute pup named Bailey! During our time together, we walked alongside the sandy beach and soaked in the peaceful winds. Shannon’s flowing baby blue and white dresses were excellent compliments to the surrounding area along with their exquisite invitation suite created by the talented bride herself (she’s the artist behind peach + paperie!). Their shoot was so organic and a perfect display of their unbreakable love.
Shannon and Joe will host their wedding in May 2018 in Purcellville, Virginia. They plan for the event to be an upbeat, cheerful, and radiant day with a rustic feel.
I can’t wait to see how amazing their wedding day will be! What an honor it is to be on this journey with them!
